GHG Data

In accordance with Articles 4 and 12 of the Convention on Climate Change and the related Decisions of the Conference of Parties (COP) to the Convention, every year the countries that are Parties to the Convention submit their national inventories of greenhouse gases (GHG) to the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

These inventories cover emissions of the following gases having a direct effect on global warming:

CO2 - Carbon dioxide
CH4 - Methane
N2O - Nitrous oxide
PFCs - Perfluorocarbons
HFCs - Hydrofluorocarbons
SF6 - Sulphur hexafluoride
NF3 - Nitrogen trifluoride

They also include the estimates of GHGs having indirect effects, such as SO2, NOx, CO and NMVOCs, in accordance with the information-related duties and requirements arising from other international agreements.

Furthermore, countries that are party to the Kyoto Protocol are bound to submit the supplementary information provided for in Article 7 of the Protocol, quantifying carbon variations and related emissions and absorptions (in terms of CO2) for the principle carbon deposits (sinks).
